Louisiana has been allocated over $1 billion to support long-term recovery efforts for Hurricanes Laura and Delta, and $1.27 billion to support recovery efforts for Hurricane Ida and May 2021 Severe Storms. The Office of Community Development submitted to the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development an action plan to spend $600 million in federal funding for recovery from Hurricanes Laura and Delta on May 6, 2022. The public comment period for the action plan began April 1, 2022 and ended May 1, 2022.
HUD approved the state’s initial action plan on July 14, 2022. OCD then submitted a substantial amendment to the action plan that incorporates the funding allocation of $1.27 billion for Hurricane Ida and the May 2021 Severe Storms as well as an additional allocation of $450 million for Hurricanes Laura and Delta. The public comment period for the action plan amendment began June 1, 2022 and ended June 30, 2022.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant disaster recovery allocation of $1.2 billion for Ida and May 2021 Severe Storms, when added to HUD’s total $1.05 billion allocation for recovery from Laura and Delta, brought the combined funding available for recovery from these storms to more than $2.25 billion. The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s allocation of $831.5 million in Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funds for Hurricane Ida and the May 2021 Severe Storms, when added to HUD’s previous allocation of $1.27 billion, brings the total funding now available for recovery from the 2021 disasters to more than $2 billion. When combined with HUD’s $1 billion allocated in 2020 for Hurricanes Laura and Delta, Louisiana now will receive more than $3 billion in disaster recovery funding for all eligible 2020-21 storms.
